Cibo Matto was a Japanese-American band formed by Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori in New York City in 1994. The album stood out to me for their upbeat and playful tracks that remind me of someone stomping through the streets of their well-traversed hometown. I wanted to depict a scene as such with vibrant colors and characters pulled straight from a superhero show like Super Sentai to show a scene where the beings are not fighting but dancing together. My process began with drawing the scene out through sketch, then translating it with programs such as Procreate, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Enter Shikari are an English rock band formed in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, in 1999. Their album, Nothing is True and Everything is Possible, came out in 2020 and is a commentary on fake news and on facts and discoveries that were regarded as true being questioned by modern society and the absurdity of it. The album takes this apocalyptic tone and tells a story of this descending chaos to the climax, where the ending gives a touch of hope with its closing tracks. I wanted to describe that apocalyptic tone in the art. In the front cover, there is this mannequin that does not have distinctive features and gives you sort-of the outline of a person, but not it entirely, which riffs off the uncertainty that the album goes for when describing this unpredictable future. The back of the album contains this mountain of rubble with the circuitboard backdrop. I wanted this to represent the quick-paced movement of AI and tech that could lead to ruin if unchecked.

I used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in coming up with the designs.
